Blue Jays Inching Closer to Acquiring RA Dickey from

The Toronto Blue Jays are inching closer to acquiring 2012 Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets, according to multiple sources.There were several other teams that were strongly interested in the services of Dickey, but the Mets decided to channel their negotiations with the Blue Jays and cut off all other discussions with the other teams, according to CBSSports.com.As of Saturday morning a major league executive aware of the negotiations told ESPNNewYork.com that both teams are working towards completing the trade.The Mets have discussed acquiring the Blue Jays top catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, who they previously did not want to include, and center fielder Anthony Gose.Last season while playing in Triple-A in Las Vegas, the 23-year-old d’Arnaud had a batting average of .333, on base percentage of .380, a slugging average of .595 and 16 home runs.Dickey has yet to discuss extension talks, nor has he been asked to take a physical according to sources close with ESPNNewYork.com.The 38-year-old Dickey put together impressive numbers to win the 2012 Cy Young award. He led the NL with 233 2/3 innings pitched and finished second with an ERA of 2.73. He also led the league in strikeouts with 230 and owns a lifetime career ERA of 3.98 over 10 major-league seasons.Dickey, who is under contract with the Mets next season for $5 million, attempted to negotiate an extension with the club, but both sides were approximately $6 million apart. Baltimore Cherry Hills Little Spelman Gang Member Sentenced to 12 Years on

first_imgOn June 30, Shaquan ‘Quanny’ Robinson was sentenced to 12 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin and crack cocaine.  Robinson was a member of the Cherry Hill gang called “Little Spelman,” which has been associated with various crimes including robbery, non-fatal shootings, homicides and drug distribution in the “down the hill” section of the troubled Baltimore neighborhood.In May of 2013, the 26-year-old was caught on police cameras handling drug transactions on a school playground. The police uncovered 24 Ziploc bags of cocaine and two bags of marijuana near and on his person. In his plea agreement, Robinson also admitted to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug conspiracy related to his membership in Little Spelman. In July of 2012, Robinson ran away from the police with a loaded handgun, which he later dropped and which was recovered by the police.Along with a dozen years in the slammer, U.S. District Judge George L. Russell III sentenced Robinson to 10 years of supervised release after he leaves prison. The sentence was announced by the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. State govt to build 83 lakh houses for the rural poor

first_imgKolkata: The state government has decided to construct 8.30 lakh houses for poorpeople living in the rural areas, under the Banglar Bari project. The houses will be constructed in the current financial year. In the 2018-19 financial year, 5.86 lakh houses have been built under the project, while in the current financial year, another 2.50 lakh houses will be set up. The houses will be built by the Panchayat and Rural Development department. The district magistrates have been asked to prepare a list of beneficiaries. The Central government will bear 60% of the cost, while 40% cost will be borne by the state government. The toilets will be constructed under Mission Nirmal Bangla project. It has been decided that in Jangalmahal, the beneficiaries will get Rs 1.30 lakh while their counterparts in other areas will get Rs 1.20 lakh. It may be mentioned that stress has been given on eight districts in this regard, namely South and North 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Murshidabad and East Burdwan. The ministry of Rural Development has increased the financial allotment in the current financial year, on the basis of the good performance of the state government in the last financial year. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed that every house will bear the Banglar Bari tag. Under the project, the beneficiaries can decorate the houses on their own. A similar project for the urban poor has also been taken up. Around 8 lakh people living in the city and suburbs will be brought under the scheme.
