The sessions court at Shivaji Nagar here on Wednesday directed the Pune police to place under “house arrest” three of the alleged “urban Maoists” arrested on Tuesday, following a Supreme Court order.Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Varavara Rao were produced in the Pune court, where police sought 15-day custody for further interrogation. They were arrested from their homes in Mumbai, Thane and Hyderabad, respectively. The police said they would be taken to their homes on Thursday. Accusing the three of waging war against the Government of India and training youth and students in Naxal activity, special public prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar demanded their police custody. The state alleged that the accused were working under the guise of an anti-fascist front called the All India United Front to overthrow the government.Ms. Pawar said the arrests were made based on an investigation of an FIR filed on January 8 by Tushar Damgude against the organisers of the Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31, 2017. The state submitted a total of seven letters to the court, allegedly exchanged between members of the banned CPI(Maoist), where the names of the three accused were mentioned. None of the letters was correspondence between any of the accused. According to Ms. Pawar these letters were retrieved from seized material after the arrests of Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Rona Wilson, Mahesh Raut and Sudhir Dhawale in June. She said Varavara Rao was assigned the task of amassing weapons from Nepal and Manipur. Mr. Ferreira and Mr. Gonsalves were given the task of identifying young students, recruiting them, sending them to Naxal areas, training and using them against the Indian government. One of the letters read out by Ms. Pawar said CPI (Maoist) commander Comrade Ganapathy wanted to meet Mr. Rao. The prosecution said the CPI (Maoist) had developed links with separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Toronto Blue Jays are inching closer to acquiring 2012 Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets, according to multiple sources. There were several other teams that were strongly interested in the services of Dickey, but the Mets decided to channel their negotiations with the Blue Jays and cut off all other discussions with the other teams, according to CBSSports.com.As of Saturday morning a major league executive aware of the negotiations told ESPNNewYork.com that both teams are working towards completing the trade. The Mets have discussed acquiring the Blue Jays top catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, who they previously did not want to include, and center fielder Anthony Gose.Last season while playing in Triple-A in Las Vegas, the 23-year-old d’Arnaud had a batting average of .333, on base percentage of .380, a slugging average of .595 and 16 home runs.Dickey has yet to discuss extension talks, nor has he been asked to take a physical according to sources close with ESPNNewYork.com.The 38-year-old Dickey put together impressive numbers to win the 2012 Cy Young award. He led the NL with 233 2/3 innings pitched and finished second with an ERA of 2.73. He also led the league in strikeouts with 230 and owns a lifetime career ERA of 3.98 over 10 major-league seasons.Dickey, who is under contract with the Mets next season for $5 million, attempted to negotiate an extension with the club, but both sides were approximately $6 million apart. The Mets offered Dickey a two-year extension worth $20 million, while Dickey requested a two-year extension for $26 million. The knuckleballer made his frustrations known publically about the negotiations while attending a holiday party earlier this week at Citi Field for children affected by Hurricane Sandy.“In the context of the market, you want what you think is fair,” Dickey told reporters. “I feel like we’re asking for less than what’s fair because that’s how it’s been for me.”
The path to what some fans hope will be a national championship season is now set in stone as Ohio State football finalized its 2013 schedule Friday. Fifteen days after Vanderbilt canceled its trip to Columbus for next year, the Buckeyes added San Diego State for a Sept. 7 contest against the Aztecs in Ohio Stadium. “San Diego State has a fine football program and we are happy to be able to add them to our schedule,” OSU athletic director Gene Smith said in a released statement. “We have had an excellent relationship with SDSU over the years with three exciting, competitive games since 2001.” The 2013 game will be the fourth time the two teams have met since 2001. The Buckeyes, which hold a 3-0 advantage in the series, have outscored the Aztecs, 70-31 over the course of contests in 2001, 2003 and 2005. SDSU, which finds itself currently a member of the Mountain West Conference, will move to the Big East next season a long with fellow MWC member, Boise State. Other non-conference opponents for the 2012 season include Buffalo, Florida A&M and California. OSU continues its 2012 campaign against Illinois Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Ohio Stadium.

Sporting director Michael Zorc is adamant that Jadon Sancho will be at Borussia Dortmund next year, despite the growing interest from rival clubsThe 18-year-old winger’s stunning rise to stardom since completing an £8m transfer from Manchester City to Dortmund in 2017 has earned him plenty of suitors.Sancho is a regular member of the BVB squad leading the Bundesliga this season and his exploits in Germany saw him being handed a call-up to the England national team. But Dortmund, who have an unfortunate history for selling their star players to rivals, have no intention of letting Sancho go right now.“Jadon knew it would be an unusual step to move here but it has been totally the right one. And he will certainly play with us next year, come what may.”Sancho has managed seven goals and 10 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this season for Dortmund. The teenage star is contracted at Signal Iduna Park until June 2022.
Mediafinder has released its first quarter report on magazine launches and closures. This year is shaping up better than the previous year, as 45 print magazines launched in 2014 verses 27 in 2013.There is some bad news, however. Closures this year outpaced 2013, with 14 versus 9. Still, that equals a two-year net market gain of 48 new (or revived) titles in Q1.Breaking it down further, 36 of the launches this year are consumer-facing titles and 9 are in the b-to-b space. But all 14 closures this year are consumer titles. In 2009 there was a net market loss of more than 120 titles over the entire year, and things looked bleak. However, the industry is clearly rebounding–with stable net gains since 2010.
The transaction gives Madison Logic, known for its demand generation and data services, the ability to offer “top of funnel,” or display, advertising options for B2B marketers. And by acquiring BBN, Madison Logic doesn’t just add to its service offerings. The company now has direct access to 1,600 publisher brands to pitch its lead-gen services to. On top of that, the deal brings the company closer to agencies and trading desks doing programmatic buys with BBN. “Everyone is getting into everyone else’s business,” says Madison Logic CEO Tom O’Regan. “And even though they all need to generate sales, what’s still important is repositioning, generating awareness and differentiating their products.” In a gap-closing deal, marketing solutions firm Madison Logic has acquired B2B media advertising platform BBN. “Of course, we’ll work with brands and agencies directly, but we did see an opportunity to work with larger trading desks that are working with BBN,” O’Regan says. “The revenue is not just from direct sources, but from programmatic and trading desk relationships.” In other words, as important as audience segmentation and lead-gen has become, marketers still need to make buyers aware of their products in the first place. “The same customers who were using us for demand generation were not using us for top-of-the-funnel awareness,” adds O’Regan. O’Regan declined to offer sale terms, but says the deal is projected to almost double the company’s revenue in 2015. Marrying data to lead nurturing and generation, along with branding opportunities, is a valuable position to be in. LinkedIn bought marketing technology and lead-gen platform Bizo for $175 million in July 2014. That deal lets LinkedIn more closely target and measure B2B marketing campaigns across its network. Ironically, all four of those companies have since divested their B2B media assets, but the ad network has since grown to include a who’s who of 1,600 publisher brand URLs reaching a global audience of 120 million, says O’Regan. Cue BBN, a digital ad platform launched in 2008 with just four publishers: Cygnus Business Media, Nielsen Business Media, Reed Business Information and McGraw-Hill.
