Top Stories Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo Comments Share Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires Clayton’s point is a valid one, and one that has affected the Packers all season. Green Bay averaged just 10.99 yards per completion which ranked 28th in the NFL. With a healthy Jordy Nelson, the Packers ranked second in the same category a year ago, averaging 12.74 yards per completion.Clayton believes this will be too much for Rodgers and Green Bay to overcome.“It’s not going to be the same blowout, but I can’t see this changing,” he said.Saturday’s game kicks off at 6:15 p.m. and can be heard on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. LISTEN: John Clayton, ESPN NFL insider “This is kind of a discount reality double-check and (Rodgers) needs to look at the film of the last game,” Clayton told Doug and Wolf Friday morning on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “Every time I saw a Packers receiver, I saw some cornerback from the Arizona Cardinals on his hip.“That’s because the Packers can’t run and the Cardinals can cover. What’s changed? What’s changed is that Davante Adams is now out and you have one less guy to get into the route. I don’t see much different.”Adams, a second-year wide receiver who had been making strides in recent weeks, injured his knee in the Packers’ 35-18 Wild Card win over the Washington Redskins and won’t play Saturday. Adams was Green Bay’s third-leading receiver this season with 50 catches for 483 yards and a touchdown.“You saw how slow those receivers are — the lack of separation. The only thing that Aaron Rodgers could do except for picking himself up after being sacked eight times, was maybe throw a back-shoulder throw to James Jones or to maybe try a little bit of a crossing route,” Clayton said.“The downfield routes are covered and I can’t imagine with a week where the Cardinals defenders have been able to rest, that they’re going to be able to slow down.”

Since 1995, the annual event benefits The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, whose mission is “to provide comfort, support and hope to cancer patients and their families.” This year’s show at the TD Garden in Boston on Nov. 18 boasts a mega lineup of stars includes Jimmy Fallon, Craig Ferguson and Jeff Ross, among many others. Tickets are on sale here.Entrepreneur sat down with the bruising Bruin to discuss his passion for helping others, leadership, and tips for building a team that hates to lose. This is the 23rd year of Comics Come Home. What has driven you to do this year after year? Both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer at a young age and passed away. Most professional athletes do a number of charitable things throughout their careers, and when cancer struck my family, I decided to start this foundation focused on areas of care that I saw was lacking. Families suffer so much when a loved one is sick. So we have two main parts: The Neely Cancer Fund which supports treatment and research efforts and The Neely House, built in memory of my parents, which gives families a convenient, comfortable place to live and relax and be around others while undergoing treatment. How did Denis Leary get involved?Denis is from Worcester Mass. I first came to Boston in 1986, instead of going to movies I enjoyed going to comedy shows. Through some mutual friends, I met Denis and we became friends. I asked him if he would consider doing some standup for a benefit for our foundation, and he did so much more. Comics Come Home is really his brainchild, he pulled together his friends from the Boston clubs and it has grown so much from there.Related: (Survey) A Quarter of Cancer Patients Use Legal Medical MarijuanaWhether it is running your foundation or your hockey team, how would you describe your decision-making style? It’s really all about having the right conversations with the right people to get the right information. You need to digest the facts and then ultimately not be afraid to make a decision. The toughest thing is understanding that your decisions could impact other people’s lives, but you can’t be afraid to do what you think it’s right. You just have to believe it and move forward. What do you look for in new hires? One of my favorite questions to ask people — especially prospective players — is, “Do you love to win or do you hate to lose?” There’s a big difference. Everybody loves to win. I hate losing. And I love when great teamwork works. Sure, this guy might have scored three goals, but in order to do that, someone had to pass him the puck.Related: 15 Motivational Quotes From Legends in SportsBesides hockey and charity, you are something of a notable film actor. The funny thing was when the Farellys asked me to do it, I didn’t know much about the production. I said sure, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my playing schedule. Then Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels signed on. Wow, this just became a much bigger deal! Every once in a while when I’m walking down the street, I still get people shouting, “Kick his ass, Sea Bass!”What was it like to have the Bruins win the Stanley Cup?For me it was it was such a special moment because I truly love our fan base. It was 39 years between cups and so you have generations of passionate fans. I was excited for our fan base and the city of Boston.Do you plan on talking to the team about the ongoing controversy of players not standing for the National Anthem?Yes, we’ll be addressing that. You know, I believe everybody has a right to express their opinions and their values and beliefs and I don’t necessarily think that a sporting event is a place to do that. Fans are there to watch the event. But I believe in people having the right to express themselves, absolutely.Related: Which Tech Billionaires Donate the Most to Charity? In a sort of surprise event (CEO Elon Musk tweeted it out two days ago), Tesla announced the $35,000 Standard Range Model 3 is available for order. The automaker has been working diligently to streamline its production line and lower unit costs of the Model 3. You can order it right now.The rear-wheel-drive car will have a 220-mile range, a top speed of 130 miles per hour and a zero to 60 time of 5.6 seconds. The $35,000 Model 3 will enter the market that’s becoming increasingly crowded. The Chevy Bolt, Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona EV are all in the same price point and have about the same amount of range. But none of them have the cache of the Model 3.The lower-priced Model 3 will have a few caveats including a new “standard interior.” That means cloth seats, manual steering wheel adjustment, a base trim, basic audio and standard maps and navigation. Gone are the fog lamps and docking ports for a smartphone. But it will have four USB ports, so that’s not a huge loss.Oh, it’s also only available in black at that cost. Blue and silver paint will set you back $1,500, white paint is $2,000 and if you want red, it’s going to cost you a whopping $2,500. Fortunately, black cars are cool. The car will still have the glass roof (woohoo), and folding heated side mirrors. The company went with a more basic interior for the lower-priced vehicle which should be expected.Tesla also announced a Standard Range Plus vehicle with 240-miles of range before you need to hit up a Supercharger. It also has a better interior than the Standard Range Model 3 with adjustable seats, better materials and upgraded audio. The pricing of both of these vehicles does not include the Autopilot suite ( Autosteer and Traffic Aware Cruise Control) which is $3,000 before delivery and $4,000 after delivery. So if after a while you want to upgrade your vehicle with the driver’s assistance package it’ll cost $4,000 and you’ll get an over the air update. The new full self-driving capability (it includes the above and Summon, Autopark, Navigate on Autopilot and future self-driving capabilities) will cost $5,000 before delivery and $7,000 after delivery.Currently, the delivery date for the Standard Range version is two to four weeks in the United States and according to Musk, additional places on the planet in three to six months.Going forward, the way you buy a Tesla will change dramatically. All Tesla’s will now only be available for online order. If you go into a store, they’ll direct you to a computer to order the car that the company says will only take you one minute to purchase. If a $35,000 car is still too rich for your blood, during a call with Musk, he stated that cheaper Tesla vehicles would enter the market in 2-3 years. He reiterated probably closer to three years. If you’re an early reservation holder for this vehicle, you will get first priority according to Musk. So that car you’ve been waiting for is almost ready for pick up. Roberto Baldwin

(Editor)Mar 7 2019Researchers from Jülich, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, and the UK have discovered specific activity patterns in the brains of people with autism. These consistent patterns of functional connectivity might be used in the long term as therapeutic biomarkers. The idea behind this is that in future, doctors would be able to investigate whether certain treatments can shift brain patterns in the direction of healthy patterns, potentially achieving an improved state of health. The results of the study, which included more than 800 patients with autism in four cohorts, were published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.Autism still poses many mysteries to science: The disease, which is defined by profound developmental disorders, is neither curable nor are its causes fully understood. The general term “autism spectrum disorder” (ASD) is used to cover the entire spectrum of autistic disorders. “In our study, we were able to identify a common pattern of brain connectivity for ASD,” explains Dr. Juergen Dukart from Forschungszentrum Jülich’s Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM-7), the last author of the study. The results might help in optimizing existing treatments or evaluating new treatment options. If neuronal activity changes simultaneously in two or more brain regions, scientists assume that they form networks and communicate with each other. The scientists refer to this as functional connectivity, which they can measure using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Against this backdrop, scientists have repeatedly investigated the functional brain activity of people with autism over the last ten years. “The problem is that each study used its own methods. This has led to very different results with little agreement,” explains Dukart. The current study evaluated data from a total of over 800 patients with autism from four independent cohorts: “We used an identical analysis and pre-processing method for all four test groups,” explains Dukart. The researchers were thus able to replicate their results from the largest cohort in the other groups: “Certain effects appear consistently in all four groups and differ from the patterns of healthy control subjects,” the scientist adds. This would make it possible to use these connectivity patterns as therapeutic biomarkers, i.e. as measurable biological parameters for brain connectivity: “In therapeutic treatment, one might want to influence the connectivity patterns in such a way that they are drawn closer to the healthy control pattern,” explains Dukart. However, further studies are required for a more in-depth investigation of this biomarker for altered functional connectivity in patients with autism.Related StoriesDon’t Miss the Blood-Brain Barrier Drug Delivery (B3DD) Summit this AugustRepurposing a heart drug could increase survival rate of children with ependymomaNew therapy shows promise in preventing brain damage after traumatic brain injuryThe researchers found that functional connectivity in the autistic brain is no more or less strong than in healthy control subjects, but that it shifts from one place to another. These shifts cause local under- and over-connectivity in the brain, which, according to the study, is associated with ASD symptoms such as speech disorders and limitations in everyday life. “This can be illustrated using the analogy of air traffic: If a large airport like Frankfurt grinds to a halt, flights are diverted to other, smaller airports. Although the total number of flights remains the same, the activity of the individual airports changes: certain airports become less important. This reflects the state of local under-connectivity of patients with autism. On the other hand, other airports become more important. These airports represent local over-connectivity,” says Dukart. For example, the study shows that certain brain regions, which are strongly linked in healthy subjects, exhibit lower connectivity in patients with autism at the expense of other regions, which, in turn, are more strongly linked. “This is what we refer to in the publication as shifts in connectivity,” explains Dukart. The Jülich researchers want to investigate more extensively the exact relationship between these shifts in connectivity and the symptoms of ASD in further studies.

But, could this be a step towards a more meaningful reservation policy?Understanding the 124th Constitutional AmendmentThe 124th Constitutional Amendment received the President’s assent on January 12.This amended two fundamental rights:Article 15, which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, caste, sex or place of birthArticle 16 which prohibits discrimination in employment in government officeThe amendment provides for the advancement of the “economically weaker sections” of the society. It also makes a note of the Article 46, which asks the government to promote the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the society. Moreover, it provides reservation for:1. People who have an annual income of less than Rs 8 lakh, or2. People who own less than five acres of farm land, or3. People who have a house less than 1,000 sq feet in a town (or 100 sq yard in a notified municipal area).Reworking reservation? This is not the first time the Modi-administration talked of a change in the reservation policy. In May 2018, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The government wants the most backward in OBCs to benefit more from reservation within the given limit. We have formed a commission to look into sub-categorisation of the OBCs.”To safeguard the interests of the backward classes, the NDA government even amended the Constitution (via the Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill, 2017) to give more powers to the National Commission on Backward Classes. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2, 2017 and by the Rajya Sabha on August 6, 2017.Debatable problemsThe major hurdle for the implementation of the recent Act is the legal scrutiny. The Supreme Court has ruled multiple times against exceeding its 1992 formula of a maximum of 50 per cent reservation. However, there are States like Tamil Nadu that go beyond this limit and the Supreme Court has upheld the state’s policy many a time. Currently, the State has a ‘69 per cent quota system’.The Tamil Nadu exampleTamil Nadu has had a quota policy from the pre-Independence period. By the 1980s, the quotas in the State were as high as 68 per cent. The top court’s verdict in the Indira Sawhney v. Union of India (Mandal Commission) Case made this policy untenable and the then government led by J Jayalalithaa amended the Ninth schedule of the constitution by passing the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes, Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of seats in educational institutions and appointments or posts in service under the state) Act, 1993 to keep the policy. This act was amended in 2007 to add backward class Muslims and in 2009 for the Arunthathiyar Community.
